Our purpose is to provide
compassionate care in service to vulnerable  islanders.

San Juan Islands Healthcare Foundation offers a...

A Three-fold Vision

1

Funding for Care

To provide compassionate and emergency healthcare access, vital services, and emotional support to vulnerable, underserved seniors and adults who are at risk of falling through the "healthcare cracks".

2

The Gift of a
"Life Wish"

To grant a dream to vulnerable seniors and adults who have not had the chance to travel, reconnect with family, or fulfill a lifelong wish.

3

Housing for Healthcare Workers

To create a long-term initiative to fund and build housing units for healthcare staff and their families to live affordably in our community.

Founding Members

SJIHF founding members and volunteers are a group of extremely committed and experienced islanders who understand the healthcare difficulties faced by our vulnerable population. We hope to positively influence and support our current network of care on the island.  We consider ourselves a diverse and caring group of committed and experienced people, willing to go the distance to positively influence the lives of islanders. We are forging ahead with our incredible goals -  to garner funding for intermediate care, to grant a lifetime wish that would not otherwise be realized, and even a long-range goal of a housing solution so that healthcare workers can move to the island for whatever period of time their careers demand, and care for all of us. We are excited (and unrelenting) about our purpose.

We firmly believe that every person has the right to lead a dignified and meaningful life.

Last year, a much loved, long-time island resident was losing the fight to cancer and it was her last wish to leave the hospital in Seattle and receive hospice care here on the island. With the financial help from friends (whom now form this Foundation), Village at the Harbor was able to provide an apartment for her last days where she was surrounded by friends, family and her beloved dog, in a safe and caring environment.”
