Every morning on San Juan Island, someone wakes up afraid. Afraid of a medical bill they simply cannot pay. Afraid there is no one to help them with daily activities, like getting dressed, eating breakfast, or taking their medication.

Afraid that the life they built here - decades of community, friendship, and belonging - might

unravel because they simply cannot afford the care they need.

Because of Islanders like you, we are able to stand in the gap!

The San Juan Islands Healthcare Foundation exists because a group of islanders refused to

accept that. Founded in 2024 by healthcare leaders who see these gaps every day in emergency services, elder care facilities, and the homes of our neighbors, SJIHF is a safety net built from the inside out by people who know exactly where it is needed. We entered 2026 with MOMENTUM from your generosity. The stories below are proof.

A COUPLE ON THE EDGE...

Crushed by medical debt and facing bankruptcy, a husband and wife reached a breaking

point. SJIHF stepped in, funding caregiving relief so the husband could recover fully. With

that lifeline, they steadied themselves and found a path forward. What felt like an ending

became a new beginning.

A WIDOW, ALONE AND OVERWHELMED...

After losing her husband, a woman with memory challenges was struggling to manage on

her own. SJIHF subsidized care staff who deep-cleaned her home, stocked her refrigerator,

and ensured she had a safe, stable foundation, restoring her dignity and her independence.

SURGERY FAR FROM HOME...

When a community member needed off-island surgery, distance and logistics threatened to

leave them without adequate support. SJIHF provided transportation and around-the-

clock care, ensuring they were never alone through one of the most vulnerable moments of

their life.
