1 | Funding for Care
When a health crisis strikes and someone cannot cover the surprisingly high cost of home care ($55+/hour) or facility care ($6,000+/month), SJIHF bridges the gap. We've already been able to respond to real-time emergencies: Housekeeping for hazardous conditions, food deliveries and assistance for recipients who could not feed themselves, and interim care during several vulnerable transitions. Each need was considered by a committee of board members, on a case-by-case basis. All were referred by a local agency whose "ears are to the ground" on community need. They are islanders, you may well know them, and we are so honored to stand in that gap.

2 | The "Life Wish Fund"
Our second vision is for providing a Life Wish to islanders. The Life Wish Fund grants meaningful experiences to vulnerable seniors and adults: a trip to see a loved one, a chance to hold a puppy, the fulfillment of a lifelong hope. These moments matter! They restore joy and dignity. Each wish costs an average of $1,000–$3,000 because...

3 | Housing for Healthcare Workers
Healthcare workers cannot care for us if they cannot afford to live here. SJIHF is planning a long-term housing initiative, creating affordable and convertible family units for the nurses, aides, and caregivers whose presence on this island is essential to all of our futures.

The San Juan Islands Healthcare Foundation exists because a group of islanders refused to
accept less than loving care for our own, encouragement for those who need it, and housing for healthcare workers, a lofty yet worthy undertaking to benefit all islanders.
